Hi everyone! We’re well on our way to Christmas now, but the researchers are still hard at work! Here’s a new request for your input, if you are someone with experience of hypertension (High Blood Pressure) in pregnancy or shortly afterwards.
I will hand you over to Layla to explain more about the study:
My research
Hello,

My name is Layla Lavallee, and I am a PhD student at the University of Oxford. I am researching women’s experiences of high blood pressure during pregnancy (or just after). The goal of my study is to identify factors which could affect women’s ability to take part in activities that support cardiovascular health after giving birth. This is important because having high blood pressure in pregnancy increases the long-term risk of cardiovascular disease for both mothers and their babies.
I am especially interested in hearing from women who may have had negative experiences with healthcare or faced challenges accessing the care and support they need. This includes larger-weight women, who my early research shows can face discrimination in healthcare settings.
If this sounds like something you can relate to, and you have experienced high blood pressure during pregnancy or shortly after giving birth, I would love to hear from you. If you are eligible and decide to take part in the study, you will be reimbursed for any travel or caring costs incurred and you will be given a shopping voucher to say thank you.
The following video links and attached leaflets provide more information about the study.
There is also a longer video here:
https://youtu.be/GHLQJBugm6I (Full participant information – 15 minutes)
and the full patient information leaflets are available below.
There is no pressure to take part, and you can withdraw any time without giving a reason.
Feel free to share this message or my contact details with anyone you think might be interested and eligible. You can reach me by email at layla.lavallee@phc.ox.ac.uk or by phone or text at 07795 390 269.
Thank you for your time,
Layla
Patient Information Leaflets
Information Leaflet in Plain Language:
Thank you Layla!
I know I say this every time, but I really believe that patient participation in research is one of the best ways to positively effect change in our healthcare system for the better. The only way the powers that be can know about our experiences (good and bad) are if we tell them, loudly, whenever we get the opportunity! So if you have experience of high blood pressure in pregnancy in the last few years and are able to spend a few minutes giving Layla your thoughts – thank you for doing so!
x
Amber/Big Birtha
